The Annual Burlington Eyecare Christmas Celebration!

Blog vol 6.22. The Annual Burlington Eyecare Christmas Celebration!
A time to stop and reflect and appreciate. Last night, we had our annual staff Christmas Celebration. I can speak for all present, it was a great time. Yes, we had great food, yes, the wine list was unsurpassed (it is the Edgewater Manor after all) and yes, the company could not be better. Not that we were needing alcohol or food to have a great time. At Burlington Eyecare, everyday is a great time, we just moved the party over from Fairview to Fruitland Road, that’s all.
You realize how important people are, each individual, their personal contributions to our work. Taking care of each other, looking after every person who calls or texts or enters our doors, giving people personal attention and care, that is what it is all about. The beauty of it is that we all get it. No doubt there is room for improvement, and we all have lots of new stuff to learn and take on, but that is the interesting part.
We have been working with the University of Waterloo’s Optometry School since 2018, and the 4th year class for each year has been great, eager to learn, helpful with staff and patients, and very professional. I am hopeful when I consider the future of eyecare in this country. We were able to have our Waterloo intern with us last night; Cara has fit in like a nut in its shell, so to speak.
I am also reminded of the Skinner family, who had an optical store in Hamilton from 1949 to 2004, and with whom I had the pleasure to work with. Great people-persons, their business motto was “People and Products you can trust.“
Those six words say it all. We at Burlington Eyecare carry on that tradition as a culture that we live and breathe each day. That is why the people: patients, staff, suppliers, and ancillary staff, are key. The products that we dispense are one with that commitment.
What does this all look like? It means looking after each other through life’s many adventures; it means desiring the best for each other and for our patients. It means flourishing. That is why Burlington Eyecare also supports initiatives like the Amazon Hospital Boat, or donating to the Burlington Food Bank, or having the City of Burlington beautify the flower bed up front each year. All these daily things matter.
“Do little things with great love.” (St.Therèse of Lisieux)
I thank God for the people and patients that we share our lives with. A privilege.
Merry Christmas, from all of us at Burlington Eyecare, to all of you.
The good doctor
