Born in Timmins, Ontario, Dr. Mark Germain attended the University of Western Ontario for his Bachelor of Science degree, before completing his Optometric Doctorate at the University of Waterloo Optometry School. Dr. Germain then completed his two-year residency at the Centre for Sight Enhancement in Waterloo, concentrating on the visually impaired and the elderly.

Wanting to further aid the visually impaired and the elderly, Dr. Germain founded a mobile practice. This mobile practice worked with the CNIB in Hamilton, Toronto, Mississauga, and Brantford, and he also visited many long term care facilities in Central Ontario. The CNIB is a notable charitable organization that works to aid Canadians who are blind or living with vision loss, and to provide information about vision health for all Canadians. During this period, Dr. Germain also taught Low Vision at the Centre for Sight Enhancement and Binocular Vision, at the University of Waterloo.

Thanks to his skill and expertise in low vision, Dr. Mark Germain was then offered a position at the University of Missouri-Saint Louis Optometry School. Dr. Germain remained a teacher at the university for a number of years, where he taught and worked in Low Vision, Optics, Binocular Vision and Ocular Assessment.

Upon returning to Canada, he joined Drs. Watson and Wilson at their former location of 3400 Fairview Street in Burlington, Ontario. Dr. Germain now owns and operates this same Burlington optometry practice as Burlington Eyecare located at 3235 Fairview Street. He is also a member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists, Ontario Association of Optometrists, and the College of Optometrists of Ontario.

Dr. Germain is a proud husband, father, and grandfather, and enjoys reading, gardening and spending quality time with his family. He also authors our podcast and our weekly blog, the good doctor, available on our website.
