Burlington Children's Eye Exams
Your Child's Eye Exam
Comprehensive eye examinations are able to start at an early age. The Ontario Association of Optometrists recommends that a child’s first eye exam be at 6 months old and their second to be at 2-3 years old, followed after by annual exams. These exams may look different from an adult’s eye examination as different charts can be used to assess vision. Techniques that do not rely on patient participation can be utilized to check for any glasses prescription and to monitor the health of the eyes. These are essential to diagnose and therefore manage many potential eye conditions. By treating these conditions early on, the eye is able to develop normally allowing your child to see well and achieve their full potential.
Burlington Eyecare's Kinder Referral Program
Refer a child who is currently in Junior or Senior Kindergarten to our office for a full eye exam and receive a Gift Card towards any product at Burlington Eyecare. Our Kinder-referral program supports the initiative of Eye See...Eye Learn (ESEL).
The Eye See…Eye Learn® program is dedicated to making sure that parents across Ontario understand the importance of regular comprehensive eye exams for children. It is important to note that vision screenings and sight tests that are often performed at a child's school are not the same as a comprehensive eye exam.
The program encourages parents to book a comprehensive eye exam for their Jr. or Sr. K child with a local, participating optometrist. The eye exam is covered by OHIP. All children are entitled to yearly OHIP-covered eye exams until they turn 20.
If a child needs glasses, they will receive a complimentary pair donated by Essilor Vision Foundation Canada and Modern Optical (Modz Kids), facilitated by their optometrist.
