Celebrating Frost

Blog vol 6.34. Celebrating Frost.

Burlington Eyecare hosted Marion and Paris Frost from Germany with their complete frame collection on Tuesday, March 10. We have worked with Frost since the Summer of 2012 and love their designs and quality.

In 2012, our office manager and head optician, Val Haslam, went to Paris for the world’s biggest fashion and optical show, Silmo. We at Burlington Eyecare were getting ready to move to our current location at 3235 Fairview Street and wanted to freshen up our optical frame collection with high-quality frames that were fashion-forward. One of the frame lines Val discovered was Frost, designed and manufactured in the Black Forest.

I met Marion and Paris Frost on Monday for the first time and their enthusiasm and their creative ideas are immediately contagious, no wonder Val took to them back in 2012.  They brought in a full lineup of their frames, and the design and quality speak for themselves.

In 1994, Marion, a talented goldsmith and optician, was having difficulties finding spectacle frames that suited her husband. Why not design their own? — Frost is born. This couple has a wonderful synergy. Just like the meeting of form and fashion, they bring these qualities into their work.

Almost 32 years since that beginning, their experience and ideas just keep flowing. When they put out their full lineup of frames for our event, what a display of colours and shapes.  Our lab manager, Roger Sales, marvels at the quality, appreciating the workmanship and the ease of glazing spectacle lenses into the frames. Again, that perfect synergy.

In January 2020, before the Covid shutdowns, Val went to Munich for Silmo, and not only saw Marion and Paris again, but went to see the Frost workshop in Sasbach.  They handcraft all their frames on sight and demonstrated their frame fabrication while there. Gracious hosts, the Frosts also showed Val and her husband around the lovely world of the Black Forest. Our opticians have since met up with the Frosts and their Frost frames at shows in New York.

No surprise we were excited to have the Frosts and their complete line of frames at Burlington Eyecare this past week.  After a successful show in New York, they came through Buffalo to visit us in Burlington.   For the past 12 years at Burlington Eyecare their collection has built up a following and many of our patients who love the frames came to peruse the lineup in all its colour and form.

We wish Marion and Paris all the best as they return to Germany and look forward to seeing what new designs they will create in the coming years.
