A Great 60th Anniversary — Thank you to all!

Blog vol 5.47. A Great 60th Anniversary — Thank you to all!

Last year in May our church, Jerseyville Baptist, celebrated 200 years. That was awesome! Last weekend we had the opportunity to celebrate 60 years at Burlington Eyecare. That was also awesome!

It takes a lot of people who are really good at what they do and are committed to the same goals for the long haul to make 60 years happen. As with anything done well, it starts small and stays small on a day to day basis: we take care of one patient at a time.

Balance is also key. Care of staff, care of patients, an office environment conducive to making it all happen.

We celebrated Dr. Ron Watson, stepping out on his own, setting up the practice, and being an excellent optometrist.  We also celebrated his staff over the years, like Elizabeth Hickey, and later Mary Crans, Shirley Mills, Linda McPhee, Donna Kavcic and Sylvia Tavares, and Brenda Moore.  Dr. R.B. assembled a group of very nice people. Last Saturday, we saw many of these people who came for the music, food, and the memories.

The music was great, provided by The Time Machine, a four piece rock band with our own Justine Lachance (Burlington Eyecare optician) on lead vocals. We did find out that we all have to work on our karaoke (next time). The food was provided by the Jonny Blonde Food Truck and Catering Company. Awesome! From the desert displays to the classy presentation and to the help they gave us for our event. World Class. I would also like especially to thank Karen Weisbrod and Nelmari Davidse for all the organizing and the hard work, and everyone who helped out with set up or clean up after, a BIG thank you!

Finally, I would like to thank our platinum sponsor, Nikon Canada. This company, that started in Japan in 1917, has been with us for most of my time in Burlington. They provide us with excellent product and back us up in so many tangible ways, like getting us tents to use for our events, providing the food, sponsoring our photo contest, and providing the giant commemorative ultra-fibre 60th anniversary cleaning cloths. They even took care of the live entertainment. So thank you to Nikon Canada for all their support.

Lastly, but most importantly, to our patients, who have been with us from day 1. We celebrate Clare Abbamont, (patient #2) who at 93 years old, came out on Saturday to celebrate with us. The trust that you have put in us does not go unnoticed and we truly appreciate it. We look to a bright future, with a team of dedicated and talented younger Doctors who hopefully will carry on the work for the next 30 or 40 years (that’s you, Dr. Ryan and Dr. Krystal and Dr. Maya, go get em).

From “Mr. Dressup” (and Casey and Finnegan too), that was my 1960s persona on Saturday complete with drawing easel!
