Raise A Glass Of Cheer

Blog Vol 2. 32. Raise A Glass Of Cheer.

You heard about the optometrist who was at a party and had a couple of glasses and made a spectacle of himself. Fortunately that was not the case last night at our staff Christmas party. It was so nice to be together in a fancy restaurant again, and I won’t mention its name but it rhymes with “Marriage Mouse” and is on Old Lakeshore in Burlington where the steaks are always superb and the wine list is unsurpassed, thank you for a wonderful time. We had a guessing game where the name of a character from a Christmas movie or show is taped on your back and you have to guess who you are based on questions people ask you. I ended up being Kevin McCallister from Home Alone fame, it could have been worse, I could have ended up as Clark Griswold of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

As I sat there last night, I had chance to look around and reflect on everybody at the table. It was wonderful to see all present, enjoying themselves and each other’s company.  I have a really great team. I can say that, because I have been able to see through the lens of a Covid pandemic and an OHIP job action, a group of people that truly get it. You know the saying, “that it takes a village to raise a child”. I would like to say that it also takes a village to take care of others and their eyes and vision, and each other in the process.

The opportunity to take some time out to play together and a have a few laughs was so precious. What do you get the optometrist that has everything already? How’s about a Red Ryder BB Gun, the “official Red Ryder, carbine action, 200-shot, range model air rifle, with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time”? one can still dream. Seriously, a nice ratified deal with the Ontario government and a swell long term relationship with the Ministry of Health would look great in my Christmas stocking.

Much to be thankful for,

Til next week,
