Burlington Eyecare 60th Anniversary Photo Contest

Blog vol 5.35. Burlington Eyecare 60th Anniversary Photo Contest.

We have been brainstorming at Burlington Eyecare. We asked the question, “How do we celebrate a diamond jubilee?” When Queen Elizabeth II celebrated, there was quite a party which continued for much of 2012 in London and throughout the Commonwealth. Few British monarchs have had the opportunity to  celebrate 60 years, the only other was Queen Victoria in 1897; King George III almost made 60 years, 1760-1820, but died just shy of his diamond jubilee. On a different note, my wife’s parents had their 60th anniversary in 2024, a great time to come together and celebrate.

Burlington Eyecare opened its doors 1965, 60 years ago! WOW!

Let’s celebrate, but how?

We decided to start off with a photography contest. Anyone can enter. The only stipulation is that the photo be of Burlington in some way:  the Pier at Spencer Smith Park, a warbler at Paletta Lakefront Park, a trumpeter swan at LaSalle Park, a rose at the Royal Botanical Gardens, or take in the many conservation areas that Burlington is blessed with, or hit the city, what about the skyline or city hall or even an industrial site.  There is beauty and interest to be found anywhere. It means you have to get outside and observe the incredible gift that Burlington is, from the heights of Mount Nemo to the shores of Lake Ontario. The contest unites technology, artistry, and a love of Burlington in one celebratory package.

This contest is also inspired by Nikon, makers of excellent camera lenses and cameras for over 100 years.  If you get your glasses at Burlington Eyecare, you almost certainly will have Nikon lenses, some of the most advanced spectacle lenses in the industry. Nikon sponsors worldwide photography contests like “Small World in Motion” (check it out here). Amazing stuff.

Prizes for the Burlington Eyecare Photography Contest: First place prize is $1,000, 2nd place prize is $500, and 3rd place prize is $300. The winning image will be used as part of our 60th anniversary celebrations.
