Blog #16, September approaches, a further word on your child’s vision.

Last week we looked at the timing of your child’s first eye exam. This week I would like to highlight an excellent program that the Ontario Association of Optometrists and some of our optical suppliers provide. Every Ontario child born in 2016 is eligible for a free set of spectacle lenses and frames (a pair of glasses), if needed.

The program is called Eye See…Eye Learn. Have your child seen by an optometrist for an OHIP-covered eye exam, and if glasses are required, the good people at Plastic Plus and Modern Optical Canada will provide them for free. Last week’s blog on amblyopia pointed out the necessity of an early visit to the optometrist and the importance of getting needed spectacle correction. With eye exams and glasses provided for free, every JK student in Ontario can be given the best possible start to their education. This is the hope. An added bonus: all paperwork is done by the optometrist and the suppliers.

So what are you waiting for? Make sure you get your child’s eyes examined before they start school. Let’s give our children the best start we can.
