the good doctor on: Charadrius Vociferous, the Killdeer

Number nine in our blogs,

Last week I took a look at some backyard fauna, particularly the Charadrius vociferous, the Killdeer. Today on our back drive, we saw three little babies pop out of the nest and scurry around. They are so cute. I have enclosed a picture I took of one of them (it is well concealed).

It is a marvel to see this family in action with the parents leading me away from the nest, pretending to be hurt, with the little ones sitting stock still on the stones. I am in awe of the measures they take to protect these very fragile young ones. Their vigilance reminds me of our society’s need to be equally as vigilant in these Covidic times. We are waiting, on baited breath, to hear what sector the authorities are going to open up next. It all makes me very queasy, when we still have the virus in the community. I am convinced that as a medical profession, I need to take all necessary precautions and measures to ensure the safety of my staff and my patients. We also need to remember the our most vulnerable, this is not a time to be cavalier. We all want to open up and get the economy going, but not with caution to the wind. A slow methodical, disciplined opening is the only option. So when you think of Killdeers and their young ones, think of the same vigilance that we need in opening up in a disciplined and controlled manner.

Til next week,
