Spring is springing

Blog vol 3. 42. Spring is springing.
This Monday afternoon was the official start of spring. We get to see the first robin, the first crocus, tulips poking through the dirt, forsythia starting to bud, and the running of maple sap on local farms. As Gerard Manley Hopkins so aptly puts it, “There lives the dearest freshness deep down things;”.
With the warmer weather comes…
… pollen and other nasty things that have us itching and rubbing our watery eyes. Allergies are a reality for many, the donning of masks during Covid helped filter these particles when we breathe but they provided little protection for our eyes.
What do you do when the allergy season begins? An isolation chamber, highly portable, is one option, but not very practical. Treatment depends on the severity of your reaction from mild reactions, requiring cold compresses and drops, to the more disabling full-blown reactions requiring strong daily doses of oral Benadryl.
If your eyes are really bothering you, if they are watery, red, itchy and your nose is running, then call us at Burlington Eyecare. We will take a look at your eyes with our bio-microscope, diagnose your problem and give you appropriate treatments. There are some fast-acting dual-purpose medications that hit the histamine system quickly and stop the mast cells from releasing more in the future. This medication is also now available in a contact lens from Acuvue called Theravision which gradually releases the drug over a 12-hour period as you wear the lens.
With the allergies taken care of, enjoy.
Spring brings colour. Take a stroll, admire the spring bulbs, the flowering shrubs, and the many birds that are arriving daily.
Come visit us and make sure that your eyes are fully corrected and that you are benefiting from the advanced coatings and filters we have available. You do not want to miss any of the excitement happening out there.
‘til next week,
