Eye See, Eye Learn
September 2010 saw the launch of an amazing on-going program made available to all Jr. Kindergarten students in Halton schools, to enable students to see better. The program is called “Eye See, Eye Learn” and is run in conjunction with the schools and local Optometrists, along with frame and lens suppliers. The Junior Kindergarten teachers are provided with brochures to be distributed to students and their parents. Children born in 2006 remain eligible for this program until June 30, 2011, and beginning July 1, 2011, the program will be available to those born in 2007.
Commenting on the importance of vision in the early years of learning, Dr. Germain states, “As many as one in six children have some form of vision problem, and close to 80% of learning comes through the eyes.” These realities stress the need and importance for eye exams at an early age.
Even with eye exams covered by OHIP for children in Ontario, it is difficult to comprehend the fact that only 14% of children enter school having had their first eye exam. Collectively, we will work to greatly increase that percentage and give children the best vision and learning opportunities possible!
So, talk to your Junior Kindergarten teacher and make use of this wonderful program. With an OHIP covered eye exam, and free frames and lenses, there is no reason why all of Halton’s children should not receive that all important first eye exam!
Simply call our office for an appointment, and on your appointment date bring in the voucher from the school, your child’s OHIP card, and we will assist from there! Should your Jr. Kindergarten child require prescription eyewear, the new glasses would be provided to you at no charge! Whether or not your child is issued a prescription, you can rest assured that your child has been provided with a thorough eye exam.
Remember, “Eye See Eye Learn!” At Burlington Eyecare, our goal is to help you do both!
